Trees are vital to our planet, they are the natural protectors of our climate. As the largest plants in the world, they provide us with oxygen, store carbon, stabilize the soil, and give life to the world’s wildlife. Heavy fires, however, have become much more common as a result of deforestation and rising temperatures. As a result, people and animals lose their homes, and the earth warms up even faster because of it. This explanation film about one of the world’s biggest organized crimes was made a decade ago and is still ongoing in 2022. According to the World Bank, illegal logging accounts for up to 90% of all logging in some countries and generates $10–15 billion in criminal proceeds annually. “Every two seconds, an area of forest the size of a football field is clear-cut by illegal loggers around the globe.” -World Bank. But what precisely is illegal logging? And how much of an impact could this have on us? This issue will be explained in less than 5 minutes by the European Forest Institute. It draws your attention to the issue of criminal logging that requires drastic responses and solutions.
